Due to the safety of the breed and their needs we follow a very strict homing process.
Staffie Adoption Process
Our adoption process from start is not a quick one, to adopt a new family member will take time to ensure this is a lifetime commitment for both sides.
We follow a strict adoption process with many steps, each well thought through over years of placing Staffies in new homes. Please bare in mind that this organization is run entirely on a volunteer basis by people who work full time jobs and occasionally have lives.
- It all starts with a post on our social platforms and an instigating email from you to apply for the Staffer as per our posts.
- Once we’ve received your filled-in adoption application form we spend some time going through the information received to ensure your property has a fair size garden, is fully fenced and that the Staffie will not be left alone for many hours on end. This process might take some time as the form is 9 pages long, and we are always receiving new applications.
- After this, you will be contacted by one of our volunteers to arrange a personal meeting and to do a home check. During this meeting we will go into more detailed discussion about the Staffie you applied for. We check your parameter walls’ height, driveway entry, whether your pool is fenced off or covered, and whether the Staffie can be seen from the road should you not be home at times.
- Should there be any safety suggestions we make and you agree on having them done we would need proof of the extra work prior to the dogs arrival.
- Once a home check has been done and approved the Staffie can be met at our kennels or current location.
- No Staffie can be met without an approved home check.
- If there is a constant connection and you feel both comfortable you can start making arrangements to take your new family member home with you.
- Lots of advice and guidance will be shared with you to ensure the first few weeks with your new family member is a good experience for everyone involved.
Rehoming your Staffie:
Unless a Staffie is found as a stray and needs to be homed, we always like to find out the reason behind a staffie being rehomed. It’s not always the case that a Staffie is left behind or unloved – very often personal circumstances happen. A family gets divorced, they’re immigrating, because a dog showed aggression to other dogs in the household, due to financial strain, or a family member passing away and no longer being able to care for their beloved Staffie. Life happens to all of us and we don’t judge, we will never know what situation a family is going through to make them decide to rehome their much loved FurBaby.
- We will NEVER share the reason for rehoming on social media.
- We will ONLY share the reason for rehoming once a possible home has been secured and a home check has been done.
- If a Staffer is surrendered from the owners we ensure to get all necessary information captured and transfered to the new owners if it is relevant to them.
- We ensure to cover all aspects and share them 1-on-1 to ensure all pros and cons are covered and no surprises come up that could result in the adoption being a failure.
- It is of course possible that we don’t receive the full story when a dog is surrendered to us, we then work closely with a trusted team of behaviouralists while the dog is at kennels with us or in a foster home.
- We believe it is imperative that we meet all the dogs’ needs prior to their homing and get a feel for the dog so we can match the dog with the right family.
We are here to protect the Staffie and its future and to ensure everyone involved with an adoption is safe and sound and this particular dog and his/her needs are fully understood and will be supported, to go the extra mile for every Staffie in need, and to always ensure the dog’s interest comes first.
Adoption Requirements:
To be considered for adoption, you need to fulfill ALL these requirements
- Be 21 years of age or older.
- Have identification showing your present address.
- Have the knowledge and consent of your landlord or Body Corporate in writing.
- Be able and willing to spend the time and money necessary to provide LOVE, a healthy diet, training, medical treatment and proper care of the dog.
- Our dogs deserve to sleep inside the house and be a part of the family with all your other pets. We don’t home a Staffie if they have to sleep outside.
- ALL YOUR CURRENT DOGS NEEDS TO BE STERILISED BEFORE YOU CAN ADOPT FROM US.
- Agree to pay a non-refundable adoption fee.
- Agree and allow us to do a home check.
- THE PLACEMENT OF DOGS IS SUBJECT TO AN APPROVED HOME CHECK, POSSIBLE MINOR PROPERTY ALTERATIONS MADE AND PRIOR SETTLEMENT OF ADOPTION FEE ADOPTION FEE.
Adoption Fees:
- Staffie Adult (Over 12 months old) – R 1,800
- Staffie Puppy (Up to 12 months old) – R2,500
Adoption T’s & C’s:
- Should the application form be approved, a home check will be arranged to inspect the property, meet the family and decide if the applied dog is the perfect match for you or evaluate which dog will be a better fit for your home.
- Should the home check be approved, you will be able to meet the dog.
- No dog can be met without an approved home check.
- All dogs will be vaccinated, sterilized/neutered, microchipped, and treated for ticks and fleas. This all forms part of our adoption fee.
- Please understand that we cover ALL costs including but not limited to vet bills, behaviorist bills, kennel costs, food costs, treats, toys and many small other details a doggo needs to be happy.
- Adoption fee to be paid and proof of payment emailed to us before the new family member will be sent off to their new home.
